Time and a Place.

I’ve been slowly but surely working on the ceremony. I’ve figured out … a basic idea of the timeline. What? I said slowly. The words themselves will take a bit to conjure up … but here’s what I’ve got so far.

We walk our happy asses in.

Officiant (let’s refer to him here on out as Honorable Homie) does the welcome/greeting/wazzup bleyotches!

Something amazing and insightful or otherwise pertaining to us and the reason we’re all so gathered.

His insightfulness followed by my insightfulness.

Those circular thingies we put on our digits.

You gone done get wedinated!

Peacing out to the partaaayyy!

I think I’m on the right track.

The Written Word.

Now that I’ve gotten the vanity out of the way, how about we look at the actual meat of this whole fete? I’ve been steadily gathering various snippets that could be readings/parts of the ceremony.

“If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together.. there is something you must always remember. you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. but the most important thing is, even if we’re apart.. i’ll always be with you.”

“Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. “Pooh,” he whispered.

“Yes, Piglet?”

“Nothing,” said Piglet, taking Pooh’s paw, “I just wanted to be sure of you.”

“Love is the ultimate outlaw. It just won’t adhere to any rules. The most any of us can do is to sign on as its accomplice. Instead of vowing to honor and obey, maybe we should swear to aid and abet. That would mean that security is out of the question. The words “make” and “stay” become inappropriate. My love for you has no strings attached. I love you for free.”

“A marriage…..
makes of two fractional lives
a whole,
it gives to two purposeless lives
a work, and doubles the strength
of each to perform it,
it gives to two
questioning natures
a reason for living,
and something to live for,
it will give a new gladness
to the sunshine,
a new fragrance to the flowers,
a new beauty to the earth,
and a new mystery to life”

“You are the bread and the knife,
the crystal goblet and the wine.
You are the dew on the morning grass
and the burning wheel of the sun.
You are the white apron of the baker,
and the marsh birds suddenly in flight.

However, you are not the wind in the orchard,
the plums on the counter,
or the house of cards.
And you are certainly not the pine-scented air.
There is just no way that you are the pine-scented air.

It is possible that you are the fish under the bridge,
maybe even the pigeon on the general’s head,
but you are not even close
to being the field of cornflowers at dusk.

And a quick look in the mirror will show
that you are neither the boots in the corner
nor the boat asleep in its boathouse.

It might interest you to know,
speaking of the plentiful imagery of the world,
that I am the sound of rain on the roof.

I also happen to be the shooting star,
the evening paper blowing down an alley
and the basket of chestnuts on the kitchen table.

I am also the moon in the trees
and the blind woman’s tea cup.
But don’t worry, I’m not the bread and the knife.
You are still the bread and the knife.
You will always be the bread and the knife,
not to mention the crystal goblet and – somehow – the wine.”
